It’s odd how the news of the passing of a complete stranger can touch you so much. But I guess for us Brits at least, he wasn't really a stranger at all, more of a late night companion (certainly got me through my revision on many an occasion).

Did anyone used to listen to his "Home Truths" on Radio 4, Saturday morning? I loved it, and will miss it dearly.

I love the way his record player used to break all the time and sometimes he'd play a record and it would sound awful and then at the end he'd say "oh.....i seem to have set that one at the wrong speed......ah well" or when he played something weird and said absolutely deadpan seriously "that was 'the screaming apes' with 'broken nose, blood everywhere', a lovely cheery little ditty"

This led to me turning my back on the crappy funk rock that I was playing at the time, and for that I will be eternally grateful.
