Hey, thought you all might be interested to see what we've been working on for the show!
Yesterday Andy Chamberlain (Annasthesia Stage Production Manager) and I spent a lovely day bumming around town on my birthday! We took advantage of Orange Wednesday (do you guys have this promotion in the states?), in which mobile phone giant Orange give you half price cinema tickets for any movie you wish to see. We wished to see Spider Man 2, but this isn't the film forum, so I won't tell you how much we both liked it.
Sometimes you just have to get out of the sun and see an afternoon movie, you know?
So anyway, after the film, we headed over to the offices of visual gurus Contemplate (James & Joe) to shoot the projections for the title track. After spending a couple of hours in a hot blacked out studio and looking into a very bright light to make my eyes irritated we emerged successful with enough raw footage for James & Joe to work their magic on.
Enjoy:

James rewinding the cine footage. Nathan daydreaming about being a superhero.
The basic idea is that I sit behind this plate glass pane while we project cine-footage onto the clear surface. The camera films me through the glass as I watch the visuals dancing mid-air in front of me. Then this gets projected on massive screens behind us for the duration of the song. If you've seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, the scene of the astronaut at the end is the inspiration for this shot. I saw it when I was really young and I think what happens is that he's sitting in a pod with all these images flashing past his eyes. Anyway, that's what I remember and that's what we're trying to create.

Preparation was done by James. I pointed at things and tried to adopt the right sort of look on my face that wouldn't get extremely annoying after staring at it for 6 long minutes.

The end result is a view of a person watching TV alone from inside the perspective of the TV itself. Sir Andy sits in below to give me some sort of idea of what this will look like.
