That's kind of a tough one.  Mainly, it influences how I think about the music I write...It's actually just recently that I really have been getting into miles davis.  It was about two months ago I stumbled across a cd with a bunch of b-sides that he took part in, some of which were never released.  It inspired me in the way the music was just so complicated, yet so free flowing and just really made me realize how inadequate my own skills are in music composition and how much I really need to work on that in order to better express myself through the music I write rather than words...somehow that makes sense to me.

so i guess that's really it, miles davis influences me to do better...

miles davis was a pioneer in jazz. his stuff was incredibly original for the times when it was released.

for some reason i get the impression that he just went into the recording studio and jammed for an hour or so and then released it.

of course this isnt the case for all of his albums--sketches of spain excluded--but maybe i just dont know enought about him...

even though he was a trumpet player, and im a trumpet player, there is really no pull there, because i dont think he was really that great technically, he was great for his work with modes and unexplored territory...

i dont know, maybe ill change my mind after i read his autobiography...
