On first listen, I really like the verses. Not so into the chorus.

Very predictable U2 offering..
Lyrics are quite tedious. not a U2 classic by a long way.

Ok, I'm in U2, I'm working on some new stuff... What thoughts are in my head?
"We should try to do something new - surprise people and keep evolving." - NO "We should write some interesting, thought-provoking lyrics." - NO "We should try to emulate the success of Elevation. People like hearing us rock." - YES "We should rip off our entire back catalogue, by singing about gold, bullets in the sky, Jesus, rock and roll..." - YES "We should ruin a good basic Hives-ey guitar part by layering some typical Edge shit on top." - YES
Rubbish.

oh my, ooOOOO, Wow, it's totally amazing.... incredible, fantastic, musical genius! Best track I've heard in at least 2 years, possibly 4.... fippin' heck, did I say genius! B) B) B) B)
OK, Anna, breathe..... calm down...... trying to get over my initial excitement at the fact that I'm about to hear the new U2 single (hard to express non-sarcasm on v. excited email, but this is totally it) better listen to it now, and let you have a real , if still completely biased opinion.
U2 are the best band in the entire universe!

I was almost completely gutted when I heard the first 5 seconds, I thought the whole thing was a joke, and it was someone’s hoax-cover-version-type-thing: “uno, dos, tres, catorce” ………what? (correct me if I’m wrong, but from my distant GCSE Spanish lesson memories, is this not “one, two, three, fourteen” ??) And what the heck is “turn it up loud captain” ……….hello? Also not into the echo/fade backing lyrics. But it still rocked!!!! And they’re still the best band in the entire Universe…. not since NKOTB can any band do no wrong by me, like U2! Here’s to my new, put-it-on-repeat-all-day-and-not-get-tired-of-it track!

Hold on, I’ve listen to it about 5 times now, surely that first 15 seconds is a joke?
Is everybody laughing at me?

I, myself, am a massive U2 fan, but I have to say that in recent years I've been a bit disappointed. And I don't think this one is going to be a favorite either. I'll reserve final judgement for after I've heard more.
